Teleidoscopiks Episode 5

Gaming

FFXI
-Got MNK up to 74 with a combination of Campaign fortification smash-a-thons and a couple of quick JP PTs yesterday (was out from work sick). I'm going to put the brakes on job levelling once this is 75 and start the great gear-up. I'm about halfway through CoP and just starting ZMs (though ZMs can be blasted through in a weekend). Hoping to score and break some Destroyers this weekend as well. These seals are burning a hole in my pocket.
-I love besieged again. I never used to go at besieged with skill-ups in mind, but man, what a great way to top off some of those hard-to-level skills. I know my h2h skill was a little lax due to the massive amount of campaigning, but we got hit with a double-header the other day and capped h2h for 73.

Champions Online
-I'm in the preview beta and I have to say thus far, I'm pretty impressed with this game. Due to NDA, I can't go in to any details, but definitely keep your eyes on this one in the future.

7th Dragon
-Just got it today and this is one enjoyable little RPG. It's everything I wanted Etrian Odyssey (1 and 2) to be, in a much more aesthetically pleasing application. I'm not sure if this is getting a NA release...but it should. More on this later.

World of Warcraft
-Discovered this week that 5 co-workers all play WoW on the Cairne server. Decided I could kill some time with 'em every now and again and moved one of my old characters over.

Movies

Watchmen
-Really really good in my opinion. My primary gripe with it was a general unevenness in the pacing...maybe that's because of the amount of material they smashed into a 3-hour movie. I also believe there was some extra character development that needed to be done... but other than that, I was highly entertained. The drama is on point, the action was hard-hitting and satisfying, the music cues were awesome, and yes, this movie had, hands-down, the best opening/title sequence I think I've ever seen. Definitely a recommended film. Just ordered both Watchmen and V for Vendetta novels as a result.

The International
-Despite lukewarm reviews, I really enjoyed this movie. I think I liked it a lot for the same reason a lot of people seemed to dislike it...the realism. Since the events on the movie are loosely based on the actions of an actual Turkish bank, it plays out like a headline article in the Economist. The murders, the double-crosses, those...moments where you realize they're one step ahead of you again and all you can do is facepalm and say "Oh man, pwned again." Along with some great shootouts and cinematography (Guggenheim gun battle ftw) makes this a keeper in my book.

Music

-Trying to work on 3 tracks simultaneously...probably won't have any done before the end of the month

-The new Prodigy album Invaders Must Die is all sorts of win. Seriously, it's almost surpasses the mark Fat of the Land set about a decade ago. Good stuff fo sho.

Life in General

-Play-Asia gave up trying to find a copy of Ketsui Death Label for me. If I want a copy, I'm probably going to have to suck it up and eBay one.

-Promotional freeze at work. It's not the end of the world or anything, but understandably, every sector is tightening their belts due to the economic climate. Kinda sucks because I've already passed the 6-month mark with HC and have done my review. Literally a day after I got my positive review back (guaranteeing a raise) they put this in place, likely for the remainder of the year. Sucks...but whatcha gonna do? I enjoy being employed, so I'm just gonna roll with it.

-The Matrix is doing great. I'm really taking a shine to how it's been over the last month. About time for its first routine maintenance in a couple weeks.

-In the hunt for some new studio quality headphones. If you got any recommendations or suggestions, post 'em.

There's a reason they call Gurfurlur, "The Menacing." The big man on the Troll Mercenaries is an absolute monster in the paint. If he gets his hands on the ball on the inbounds or off the rebound, it's a guaranteed score. Don't count out the Imperial Serpent Generals however. Najelith is a defensive powerhouse that not only has the skills to create turnovers, but has the vision to make great plays off of other people's mistakes, as we saw last week, when she got the steal off a pass intended for Mamool Ja Savage point guard Strifelord Bakool Ja, and used her patented Typhonic Arrow to pass the ball in a dazzling ally-oop to Mihli Aliapoh, who brought it home with a two-handed jam, completely posterizing the Illuyankas en route to a 100-93 victory...
